Illsley, Hugh Percival

ILLSLEY, Hugh Percival (1896-1992), was born in Montreal, Que. on 15 February 1896 and received his architectural training in the office the Montreal architects Edward & William S. Maxwell whom he joined in 1914. He then worked briefly for Ross & MacDonald before entering the office of John S. Archibald in 1922. It is here that he met his future partner Ian T. Working first under the name of John S. Archibald Associates from 1934 until 1937, they renamed the firm Archibald & Illsley in April 1937 and were joined by Francis O. Templeton in late 1949. Hugh. P. Illsley remained active until 1976 when he retired from practise, and died at Ste.-Anne-de-Bellevue on 18 April 1992 (inf. from Ontario Association of Architects; correspondence with H.P. Illsley).
