Cotton, Dixie Cox

COTTON, Dixie Cox (1882-1943) was born in Port Credit, Ont. on 19 September 1882 and articled with Herbert G. Macklin from 1900 to 1907. In 1908 he formed a partnership with Macklin and operated an architectural firm called The Designing & Draughting Co. which, based on new research, can now be credited with designs for several houses in the Rosedale and Forest Hill neighbourhoods of Toronto. When Macklin resigned in 1919 Cotton became the sole owner of the firm and moved his practice from Toronto to Port Credit (where he had been a life-long resident). Cotton later became a maintenance engineer for the St. Lawrence Starch Co. He died in Port Credit on 9 September 1943 (obit. Toronto Telegram, 10 Sept. 1943; obit. Port Credit Weekly, 16 Sept. 1943; inf. Ontario Assoc. of Architects)
