Connery, William

CONNERY, William (1872-1937) was born in Toronto on 10 June 1872 and articled with G.M. Miller in Toronto (in 1886-90). He continued to work as a draftsman for Miller from 1890 to 1895, then took a position with Edwards & Webster (in 1895-97). He moved to Kingston to work for William Newlands, then returned to Toronto in 1899 to again assist G.M. Miller until 1906. In 1907 he was invited by James A. Ellis to form a partnership (see list works under Ellis & Connery). Their practice flourished and continued until 1914 when Connery left to open his own office in Toronto. During the period of 1917-26 he also acted on behalf of the federal government as local Resident Architect for the Toronto region. Connery died in Toronto on 5 July 1937 (death notice Toronto Star, 6 July 1937, 28; inf. Ontario Assoc. of Architects)
