Chisholm, Colin Campbell

CHISHOLM, Colin Campbell (1883-1936), son of James Chisholm, was born in Winnipeg on 17 September 1883 and was educated in St. Paul, Minnesota. and in Superior, Wisconsin. where his father had moved to practice his profession during the period from 1880 to 1900. When the family moved back to Winnipeg in 1900 Colin trained in the office of his father and became a full partner in the firm of James Chisholm & Son in 1909. When his father retired and moved to California in 1910, all the work in their office reverted to Colin C., even though the legal name of 'James Chisholm & Son' continued to be used until after 1925. Colin was elected as an alderman to Winnipeg City Council in 1929 and took an active interest in civic improvements and designed several urban developments which drew on his knowledge of planning and architecture. He died in Winnipeg on 5 September 1936 (obit. Winnipeg Tribune, 5 Sept. 1936, 4; biog. F.H. Scholfield, The Story of Manitoba, 1913, iii, 723-4). A photographic portrait of Campbell appeared in the Winnipeg Tribune, 24 Nov. 1926, 2, in an advertisement for local political office.
