Champagne, Maurice

CHAMPAGNE, Maurice (1896-1962) was born in Montreal on 25 June 1896 and attended the University of Ottawa in 1910-14. He articled with the Ottawa firm of Horwood & Horwood in 1914-19, then moved to Montreal and studied architecture at McGill University in 1920-22 before returning to Ottawa. He opened an office there in 1923 and practiced under his own name until 1929 when he turned over much of his professional business to Lucien Leblanc and moved to Lachute Mills, Que. to work as a staff architect for Ayers Ltd. and the Dominion Shuttle Co. Ltd. He resumed his private practice in 1935 and was active until his retirement in December 1959. Champagne died at Hull, Que. on 12 January 1962 (obit. Le Droit [Ottawa], 13 Jan. 1962, 13; inf.
