Chadney, Robert William Stinnell

CHADNEY, Robert William Stonnell (1869-1947) was born at Malvern Wells, Worcestershire. England on 6 February 1869 and trained in Birmingham with J. Burrall until August 1890. He later entered into a partnership with Burrall in 1902-04, then emigrated to Canada in 1905. He opened an office in Toronto under his own name in March 1906 and remained active there until 1910 when he moved to Victoria, B.C. and found work as a draftsman with Thomas Hooper from Oct. 1911 to January 1912. In early 1912 Chadney relocated to Vancouver where he worked in Hooper's branch office while undertaking commissions on his own account. He joined the Architectural Inst. of British Columbia in 1921 and his last known commission was a collaborative effort with McCarter & Nairne on their competition-winning design for the Canadian Memorial Church and Parish Hall. Chadney moved to Los Angeles, Calif. in July 1924 and died there on 7 March 1947 (inf. A.I.B.C., Vancouver)
