Venne, Ludger

VENNE, Ludger (1891-1973) was active in Montreal, Que. and was born there on 12 January 1891. While information regarding his education and training has not been found it is know that his career as architect began shortly after World War I when he completed an ambitious design for St. Zephirin Roman Catholic Church, La Tuque, Que. (1922-23). He was active in the Town Planning Commission in Montreal in 1931, and was elected as President of the Province of Quebec Association of Architects in 1936. He does not appear to have been related to Joseph Venne nor to L. Alphonse Venne who also practised in Montreal during this time. Venne died at St. Lin, Que. on 24 April 1973 (death notice in La Presse [Montreal], 26 April 1973, F15). A copy of his portrait is held by P.Q.A.A. in Montreal. Another photographic portrait of Venne was published in the Daily Commercial News [Toronto], 27 Jan. 1936, p. 1.
