Cassels, Andrew Henry

CASSELS, Andrew Henry (1869-1953) of Toronto was one of three young draftsmen that John A. Pearson took with him to St. John's, Nfld. to rebuild the city after the Great Fire there in 1892 (C.A.B., vi, April 1893, 47). In 1897-99 Cassels was active in partnership with Vaux Chadwick, with whom he designed a full floor addition to the Sheppard Publishing Co. Block, Adelaide Street West near Yonge Street, TORONTO, ONT., 1898 (Toronto b.p. 176, 30 May 1898). He joined the O.A.A. in 1899 and served a term as treasurer of the Toronto Society of Architects in 1910 while working for Bond & Smith. He was made an associate partner in that firm in January 1907 (Toronto Daily Star, 16 Jan. 1907, 2). Cassels later moved to Montreal and died there on 4 June 1953 (death notice Gazette [Montreal], 5 June 1953, 31; inf. Mr. Gordon Cassels, Toronto)
