Carrothers, Lewis Edward

CARROTHERS, Lewis Edward (1878-1964) of London, Ont. held the position of Staff Architect to the London Board of Education from 1919 until 1946, and he can be credited with the design and supervision of many of the public school buildings erected there after WWI. Born at Adelaide, in Middlesex County, Ont. on 18 April 1878, he attended school in Strathroy and may have articled with a local London architect before registering with the Ontario Assoc. of Architects in September 1910. He practiced under his own name from 1910 until 1919 when he joined the Board as its Chief Architect in November 1919. Carrothers retired in January 1946 and was still residing in London in 1956. He died in London, Ont. in 1964 and was buried at Woodland Cemetery in that city (inf. Ontario Assoc. of Architects; Mr. Tom Moore, London)
