Caron, Louis Jr.

CARON, Louis Jr. (1871-1926) trained under his father Louis Caron Sr. and was invited by him to become a partner in the Nicolet, Que. office of L. Caron & Son in 1900. Many of the projects by the firm were ecclesiastical works commissioned by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Nicolet. When his father retired in 1912, Louis Jr. continued the practise of L. Caron & Son and carried out all the commissions credited to the firm until 1926. Caron Jr. died there on 18 February 1926 (obit. La Presse [Montreal], 18 Feb. 1926, 3, with port.; Journal le Nouvelliste [Trois Rivieres], 24 Feb. 1926; biog. and port. Biographies Canadiennes Francaises, 1920, 380). A detailed biography and list of works by Louis Caron Jr. prepared by A. Caron-Dricot was published in 1997 in Les Caron: Une Dynastie d'architectes depuis 1867, 1997, 85-166; 279-80. The Archives Nationales du Quebec at Trois Rivieres holds a major collection of architectural drawings by members of the Caron family.
