Campbell, Kenneth Mowat

CAMPBELL, Kenneth Mowat (1891-1942) was born in Springhill, N.S. and studied architecture at McGill University where he graduated in 1913. He served with Canadian Forces in France during WWI and obtained the rank of Major. He studied in London under Sir Aston Webb, one of England's most talented Edwardian architects, then moved to Palm Beach, Fla. to set up his own practice. He later moved to New York City and joined the office of James E.R. Carpenter and contributed to the design of the Lincoln Building, 42nd Street and many large apartment blocks on Park Avenue. He returned to Canada in 1935 and practiced in Fredericton before being appointed Chief Architect of the Naval Service in Halifax in 1941. He died in there on 25 March 1942 (obit.
