Disbrowe, Willliam Henry

DISBROWE, William Henry (1854-1911), a native of Louth, Co. Lincolnshire, England, was active in Winnipeg, Man. where he was '...the architect of a mammoth hotel about to be erected in Winnipeg' (Free Press [London], 18 March 1882, 4). This may be the hotel at Norwood, Winnipeg West for which Disbrowe called tenders in 1882 (Manitoba Free Press [Winnipeg], 7 April 1882, 1, t.c.). He also designed Ross & Leacock's Block, Rorie Street at Owen Street, WINNIPEG, MAN., 1882, intended as a commercial block of stores and offices for A.W. Ross and E.P. Leacock (Manitoba Free Press [Winnipeg], 5 May 1882, 8; and 28 June 1882, 3, t.c.). Born in England on 21 May 1854, he was recorded in Winnipeg from 1881 onward, and later died in St. Boniface, Man. on 21 May 1911.
