Denoncourt, Ernest Lefebvre

DENONCOURT, Ernest Lefebvre (1888-1972) was born in Trois Rivieres, Que. on 18 January 1888 and was educated there and in Montreal where he graduated from the Ecole Polytechnique in 1913. He was junior assistant in the office of Charles Lafond (in 1913-16) and practiced under his own name in Trois Rivieres in 1916-18. In late 1918 he formed a partnership with Ulric J. Asselin (see list of works under Asselin & Denoncourt). Their practice flourished, largely from the patronage of the Roman Catholic School Board who commissioned their firm to design more than a dozen schools in and around Trois Rivieres. Their collaboration ended in 1934 and Denoncourt, by now a talented designer of modernist works, continued to work under his own name until 1948 when his son Maurice joined him in the new firm of Denoncourt & Denoncourt. They practised together until 1960. Ernest D. died in Trois Rivieres on 3 August 1972 (obit. Le Nouvelliste [Trois Rivieres], 4 August 1972, 2; biog. and port.
