Falbord, Henri Robert

FALBORD, Henri Robert (1866-1902) was born in Sorel, Que. and moved to Montreal to study architecture as a draftsman during nine consecutive years from 1883 until 1892. He then opened his own office and by 1894 he had under construction 'a number of good national and public buildings and private houses giving abundant evidence of his talent and ability' (biography in Montreal Illustrated, 1894, 278). In 1896 he won an invited competition against five other architects for his design of a Museum and classroom extension to St. Laurent College, Ville St. Laurent. This success led to other commissions in the town including the residence of the Mayor of St. Laurent. Falbord's promising career ended in 1902 when he died suddenly on 6 October 1902 at the age of 36 (death notice in La Presse [Montreal], 7 Oct. 1902, 10; biog. and list of works in The Gazette [Montreal], 5 June 1897, 15)
