Goble, Henry

GOBLE, Henry (1832-1905) was born in Suffolk, England on 10 May 1832 and emigrated to Canada in 1840. He first appears as a carpenter and contractor in Ingersoll, Ont. and was active there from 1868 until 1896. In 1868 he built (and likely designed) the Methodist Church, in Ingersoll, Ont. In 1870 he was noted as the contractor (and perhaps as the architect and designer) of the Baptist Church at Aylmer, Ont. His name was also associated with the Methodist Church in St. Thomas, Ont., 1870-72, where he served as builder, and possibly as the architect. After 1880 he began to style himself as an "architect", but no references to his work after 1896 have been found. Goble died in London, Ontario on 14 September 1905 (obituary Brantford Daily Expositor, 15 Sept. 1905, 1; inf. Canada, 1901 Census, London, Ont. No. 86, SD Ward No. 2, B-4, 11)
