Munn, Jonathan

MUNN, Jonathan (fl. 1854-55) was credited with the design of St. Michael's Anglican Church, St. Michel Street, SILLERY, QUE. (Montreal Transcript, 12 May 1854, 2; H. Bergevin, Eglises Protestantes, 1981, 74, illus.). This distinctive Gothic work, located opposite Mount Hermon Cemetery in Sillery, was among a number of early Victorian chapels erected in Canada which followed the tenets upheld by the Ecclesiological Society in England. Munn's plan may have been directly influenced by the work of Frank Wills and his design for St. Anne's Anglican Chapel of Ease, Westmoreland Street, Fredericton, N.B., erected in 1846-47.
