Mailloux, Ovide

MAILLOUX, Ovide (1853-1898) of Montreal, Que. began his practice in 1874 and designed several characteristic stone-fronted row houses and tenements for speculative builders on Park Avenue, St. Monique Street, Cadieux Street, St. Joseph Street and Mountain Street in that city (Gazette [Montreal], 12 Jan. 1887, 2, list of works). His best know work is the Christian Brothers Novitiate in the Maisonneuve neighbourhood of Montreal, a typically austere four storey college building surmounted by a Second Empire mansard roof and bell tower.
