Asselin, Ulric J.

ASSELIN, Ulric J. (1869-1937) was active in Montreal and in Trois Rivières, Que. from 1892 onward and during his career formed two 'split' partnerships with other partners, one in Quebec City and the other in Trois Rivières, during which time he continued to live and work in Montreal. Asselin was born in Quebec City and was educated at the Ecole des Beaux Arts there and in Boston. He began his own practice in Montreal in 1892 but appears to have left that city in late 1895. In 1902 he had returned and formed a brief partnership with J.E. Huot (see list of works under Huot & Asselin); in 1903 he formed another partnership with Louis Perron, an engineer by training (Le Prix Courant, xxxv, 27 March 1903, 42). In 1910-11 he collaborated with Lorenzo E. Auger of Quebec City, and in 1913 formed a new partnership with J.O. Brousseau in Montreal. In 1918 Asselin received the appointment of architect to the Roman Catholic School Commissioners in Trois Rivières and joined with Ernest L. Denoncourt of that city in establishing a joint practise with offices both there and in Montreal. Asselin died in Montreal on 18 October 1937 (obituary in Le Nouvelliste [Trois Rivieres], 19 Oct. 1937, 3; Le Devoir [Montreal], 19 Oct. 1937, 3)
