Patry, Michel

PATRY, Michel (1806-1865), an architect and builder of Quebec City, was the son of Michel Patry, a master joiner, and was active there from 1829 where he frequently worked as carpenter, joiner and timber framer. After 1843 he styled himself as an architect undertaking the design and construction of houses as well as churches and institutional buildings (Le Journal de Quebec [Quebec City], 10 July 1845, 3, advert.). The citations to his works in Quebec City noted below are based on the comprehensive list of commissions compiled by A.J.H. Richardson and printed in his book entitled Quebec City: Architects, Artisans and Builders, 1984, 449-50, 473. Patry died in Quebec City on 1 March 1865 (death notice in Le Journal de Quebec, 2 March 1865, 3)
