Arnoldi, Evelyn Telfer

ARNOLDI, Evelyn Telfer (1881-1975) practised in Toronto from 1920 until after 1950. Born in England on 31 July 1881 he came to Toronto as a youth and was educated at Toronto public schools and at the Ontario School of Art (a forerunner of the Ont. College of Art). He worked as an apprentice and draftsman in the office of Langley & Howland from 1907 until 1919, and in 1920 opened his own office where he specialized in plain and unexceptional residential commissions (C.R., xxxvi, 23 Aug. 1922, 851, illus. & descrip.). From 1924 until 1930 he was in partnership with A.T.C. McMaster, an engineer by training, and together they completed the design for St. Mark's Anglican Church, Blackthorn Avenue at St. Clair Avenue West, Toronto, 1929-30. After 1931 he maintained an independent practice and retired in 1971. He died in Toronto on 12 May 1975 (obituary in the Toronto Star, 13 May 1975, A3; inf. from Ontario Association of Architects)
