Tilley, William Charles

TILLEY, William Charles (1869-1929), born in London, England in July 1869, he was the son of Charles Tilley, the leather goods magnate, and was among the first members of the Architectural Draftsmen's Association which was formed in Toronto in December 1886. In mid-1887 he was employed as draftsman with William Strickland. By 1900 he is recorded in Kingston, Ont. where he was assistant in the office of Power & Son Architects, and he trained under Joseph Power in that city. After 1910 he moved to Brantford and in 1914 became a partner with Lloyd D. Barber (see list of works under Barber & Tilley). After 1915 he practiced independently in Brantford, and later died there on 25 February 1929 (obituary Brantford Expositor, 25 Feb. 1929, 1)
