THORP, --, was noted as the '.......architect and contractor in Guelph' Ontario who designed and constructed two early churches in that town, the Roman Catholic Church, 1831, and the Presbyterian Church, 1832. According to an 1831 newspaper article, he was "......the successful candidate for building the Presbyterian Church there. The same contractor has built and is now finishing the Catholic Chapel in Guelph, a very handsome and commodious building" (Western Mercury [Hamilton], 8 Dec. 1831, 3, descrip.)
