Angus, Robert Young

ANGUS, Robert Young (1887-1968) was the younger brother of Henry W. Angus and was a partner in the North Bay architectural firm of Angus & Angus from 1912 until 1929. He was born in London, Ont. on 21 January 1887, educated at London Collegiate Institute, and like his brother obtained his architectural training in the office of H.C. McBride of London between 1901 to 1904. He followed his brother to North Bay and worked as chief draftsman in the office of the Temiscaming & Northern Railway from 1907 to 1912 but left that position in August 1912 to join Henry in founding the firm of Angus & Angus, Architects. Robert moved to nearby Sudbury in 1912 to operate the branch office of Angus & Angus (Daily Nugget [North Bay], 30 Aug. 1912, 1).

They remained in partnership for more than 15 years, but after the death of his brother in 1929, the downturn in economic activity after October 1929, and the physical effects of a nervous breakdown in 1932 forced him to resign from the Ontario Association of Architects in June 1932 and he later died at the Whitby Psychiatric Hospital in 1968 (inf. Ont. Assoc. of Architects). See list of works under Angus & Angus.
