Smith, Frank L.

SMITH, Frank L. (fl. 1887-91) of Boston, Mass. prepared the design for the Old Ladies Home, YARMOUTH, N.S., 1891 (Yarmouth Herald, 15 April 1891, 2). This benevolent institution was conceived as a retirement home and still serves that function (L. Maitland, The Queen Anne Revival Style in Canadian Architecture, 1990, 224, illus. but lacking attribution). Smith employed the popular Queen Anne Revival style frequently found in Maritime residential architecture of the period. He practiced in Boston under his own name from 1887 until 1891 when he was joined by a partner Edward W. Smith (perhaps a brother). No biographical information has been found on this architect.
