Smith, Andrew Johnston

SMITH, Andrew Johnston (1840-1899) was paid $300 in fees for his plans of the Lunatic Asylum, NEW WESTMINSTER, B.C., 1875 (B.C., Sessional Papers, 1876, Public Accounts, 528). The structure was designed 'in the Italian style, with east and west wings, surmounted by a dome' (D. Luxton, Building the West: The Early Architects of British Columbia, 2003, 79, 518). He is also described as 'the architect' for the Provincial Court House at YALE, B.C., 1874, demol. (Mainland Guardian [New Westminster], 1 Aug. 1874, 3)
