Young, John Henry

YOUNG, John Henry (1834-1914), born in Dublin, lreland, and practised in Hamilton, Ont. from 1872 until after 1895 and offered his services as 'architect and patent solicitor', but few references to his work can be found. In August 1878 he entered a partnership with Robert D. Kennedy in Hamilton, but this was dissolved in November 1879 (see entry under Kennedy & Young). In 1880 he prepared plans for a residence and store for Joseph T. Kendall, Hunter Street East, HAMILTON, ONT. (Spectator [Hamilton], 28 Dec. 1880, 1, t.c.) and in 1890 designed St. George's Anglican Church, Tom Street at Sophia Street , HAMILTON, ONT. (History of St. George's Church 1890-1940, 6, 19). In 1888 Young's essay entitled 'The Architect' was published in the Canadian Architect & Builder, i, Jan. 1888, 3-4. Young died in Hamilton on 30 March 1914 (obituary Spectator [Hamilton], 31 March 1914, 16).
