Wood, John A.

WOOD, John A. (fl. 1873-1921) began his career in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. and later moved to New York City where he was 'a well known specialist in hotel architecture'. In 1881 he obtained the commission to design the Hotel Princess, Place d'Armes, MONTREAL, QUE. (l'Opinion Publique [Montreal], xii, 9 June 1881, 269). In 1886 he traveled to Quebec City to advise on the design of a major hotel there to cost $300,000 (Gazette [Montreal], 21 Dec. 1886, 3), but it is unclear if this project was built (inf. D.S. Francis, Architects in Practice: New York City 1840-1900, 84).
