Wood, Alexander Campbell

WOOD, Alexander Campbell (1887-1959) was a member of the architectural dynasty founded by Alex C. Hutchison in Montreal in 1860. Born in Montreal on 19 March 1887 he was the son of George W. Wood and graduated from the Dept. of Architecture at McGill Univ. in 1908. He worked as a draftsman in his father's firm of Hutchison & Wood in Montreal in 1908-09 and 1911-18 and also worked in New York City for Cram, Goodhue & Ferguson in 1909-1911. He became a partner in the firm in 1918 and after the death of his father in 1941 he joined with William B. Hutchison to continue the practise, then took over the firm in late 1946 when Hutchison Jr. retired. He was in partnership with H.T. Langston from 1948 and died in Montreal on 9 July 1959 (obit. and list of works Gazette [Montreal], 11 July 1959, 37; inf. Prov. of Quebec Assoc. of Architects)
