AMYOT, Joseph Eugene Gaston (1909-1966), architect of Quebec City, was born there on 26 March 1909 and received his early education at the Acadamie Commerciale. He obtained his architectural education at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Quebec City from which he graduated with a diploma in 1933. His early office experience was gained in his home town where he worked for Lorenzo Auger for three months, and for Beaule & Morissette for eighteen months. In December 1934 he formed a partnership with Maurice Bouchard and Pierre Rinfret which existed until late 1945. In February 1946 this partnership was dissolved and he created a new firm with Joseph Marchand which remained active until 1950. He then continued to practise under his own name until 1961 and died in Quebec City on 11 December 1966 (biography and portrait in the National Reference Book, viii, 1947-48, 12; Qui Etes-Vous, 1946, 2-3; obituary in L'Action [Quebec City], 12 Dec. 1966, 17).
