Williams, Albert E.

WILLIAMS, Albert Edward. (1877-1966), partner in the firm of the Williams Bros., Architects (fl. 1895-1905) maintained offices in both Windsor, Ont. and in Detroit, Mich. at the turn of the century. Born in Bristol, Engl. on 14 September 1877 he came to Canada with his family in 1888 and settled at Windsor where he obtained his early education. He worked as an apprentice in the Detroit office of S.C. Falkenburg and with Spier & Rohns. In January 1901 he commenced practise in Detroit and Windsor in partnership with his brother William T. Williams. Their works include schools and other buildings in Windsor and Essex County, as well as the Belle Isle Creamery on East Forest Avenue in Detroit and the Town Hall in Highland Park, Mich. When his brother relocated in Medicine Hat, Alta. in 1905 Albert E. continued the practise under his own name in Detroit until after 1920 (biog. in The City of Detroit, Michigan, 1922, iii, 739). Williams died in Detroit, Mich. on 15 August, 1966 (obituary Detroit Free Press, 17 Aug. 1966, 14). A photographic portrait of both Albert E. Williams and William T.
