Wiley, Thomas Husted

WILEY, Thomas Husted (1873-1944) was born in St. Catharines, Ont. on 1 April 1873 and worked as a student in the office of William B. Allan. He had no formal college or university training in architecture, but gained much of his knowledge about building construction by working as a carpenter and construction foreman for the George Wilson Construction Co. for fifteen years. He commenced practise under his own name in 1906 and many of his commissions were for residential and institutional works in the St. Catharines and Niagara Peninsula region. After his death in 1944 his son Thomas R. Wiley continued the practise (obituary and portrait in the St. Catharines Standard, 24 Jan. 1944, 1; biog. St. Catharines Standard, 4 Oct. 1913, 4)
