Wight, John A.

WIGHT, John A. (1870- c. 1900) of Ingersoll, Ont. trained under his father James Wight and joined him in partnership about 1895. In 1898 he is listed as conducting a practice under his own name, and during that year designed a residence for William Briden, Duke Street, INGERSOLL, ONT. (C.R., ix, 2 March 1989, 4). Briden was the principal of Ingersoll Collegiate, a landmark building which had been designed in 1896 by James Wight & Son. Wight is also credited with the plans for the residence for J. Anderson Coulter, Duke Street, INGERSOLL, ONT., 1898 (C.R., ix, 2 March 1898, 4), and the design of a major addition to the Kirwin House Hotel, Oxford Street, INGERSOLL, ONT., 1898 (C.R., ix, 27 July 1898, 4). He appears to have moved away from Ontario in 1899; he may be the same "John A. Wight, Architect" recorded in Chicago, Ill. in 1900.
