Wells, Theophilus Hughes

WELLS, Theophilus Hughes (1900-1974) of Waterloo, Ont. was born there and graduated from the School of Architecture at the University of Toronto in 1926. He was trained in the offices of Nichols, Sheppard & Masson at Windsor, Ont. during the summer of 1924 and after graduation spent eight years in the office of Albert Kahn of Detroit where he worked on the Fisher Building (1927) and the Maccabees Buildings (1927). He returned to Waterloo in 1934 and assisted Bernal Jones before starting his own office there. Wells later became staff architect with the Mutual Life Assurance Co. of Waterloo and retired from this position in 1965. He died in Waterloo on 4 August 1974 (death notice in the Kitchener-Waterloo Record, 6 Aug. 1974, 31; inf. from Mrs. Agnes F. Wells, Waterloo)
