Watson, Albert Edward

WATSON, Albert Edward (1885-1973) was born in London, England and educated there. From 1900 to 1905 he served an apprenticeship under Edmund W. Wimperis of London and came to Canada in 1908. He spent six years with the Toronto architect John M. Lyle and under his supervision prepared two elaborate Beaux-Arts designs for an Art Museum and an Open Pavilion (Const., iii, April 1910, 50-2, illus.). In January 1915 he formed a partnership with J.P. Hynes and Isadore Feldman (see list of works under Hynes, Feldman & Watson), and remained active in this office until May 1921 when the partnership was disbanded. Watson then moved to New York City to work with Warren & Wetmore and with Donn Barber and returned to Toronto in late 1927 to join Chapman & Oxley. He was active in the profession until after 1960, and died in Toronto on 22 March 1973 (death notice in Toronto Star, 24 March 1973, 44; inf. from Ontario Association of Architects; biography in R.A.I.C.
