Walmsley, Frederick George

WALMSLEY, Frederick George (1886-1938) was born in Blackburn, England and trained as an architect in that country. He emigrated to Canada in 1911 and worked as a draftsman in the Manitoba Dept. of Public Works for two years. He then joined the City Architect's Office in Winnipeg and remained for one year before opening his own office. In 1920 he designed St James Methodist Church, Parkview Street near Portage Avenue, WINNIPEG, MAN. (Winnipeg Tribune, 5 June 1920, 10; inf. United Church Archives, Toronto). This was a complete rebuilding of the church which had been destroyed by fire in 1919. In 1921 he relocated to Vancouver and devoted most of career there to real estate activity (biog. in Who's Who in British Columbia, 1937-39, 153). Walmsley died at Vancouver on 26 December 1938 (death notice, The Sun [Vancouver], 28 Dec. 1938, 11).
