Ellis, Bernard Edward Trotter

Ellis, Bernard Edward Trotter (1884-c. 1970), an architect active in Toronto from 1913 to 1922, and partner in the Toronto firm of Ellis, Oburn & Ellis from 1923 to 1929, and as Ellis & Ellis, Architects from 1930 to 1934. During this period, Bernard E.T. Ellis lived in Oakville, Ont., and he obtained several architectural commissions in that town. Born in Worksop, Co. Nottingham, England on 30 March 1884, he attended Wesley College in Sheffield in 1897 to 1902, and studied architecture at Birmingham Technical School from 1903 to 1908. After serving an apprenticeship in York, England, he emigrated to Canada and opened an office in Toronto in 1913. He later joined the Ontario Association of Architects and remained as a member until 1945 when he retired. His business partners in Toronto included a ´Mr. Oburn’, and Stanley Ellis. No information has been found on his activity after 1945 (inf. Ontario Assoc. of Architects, Toronto).
