Ellison, Thomas

ELLISON, Thomas (1825-1888), active in Sarnia, Ontario from 1880 onward, he was recorded as the architect of several residential and institutional projects there as early as 1884. In 1887 he advertised himself as an architect (Sarnia Observer, 4 Nov. 1887, 1, advert.). According to his obituary in the Sarnia Observer of 22 June 1888, p. 5, he was noted as a “builder & contractor”, but the Ontario Provincial Record Book of deaths in Lambton County record him as “builder and architect”, indicating that he designed his own works, and likely acted and builder and contractor for the construction of buildings following his own plans. Ellison died in Sarnia at the age of 63 years, on 15 June 1888 and was later buried at Lakeview Cemetery in Sarnia.
