Mackenzie, Robert

MACKENZIE, Robert (1818-1896), an architect and builder active in Sarnia, Ontario from 1860 onward. He was the older brother of Alexander Mackenzie (1822-1892) who also worked in the area as an architect and builder, and who later became the Prime Minister of Canada. Robert Mackenzie was born in Logierait, Co. Perth & Kinross, Scotland on 16 October 1818 and emigrated to Canada after 1850. His name is linked to the design and construction of two churches in Lambton County, in western Ontario, and he may have been the architect and builder of several other buildings in the region. He died in Sarnia on 14 December 1896 (inf. Ian Mason, Sarnia, Ont.)
