Sharp, Kendrick

SHARP, Kendrick or Kenneth, (c. 1894-95), active in Cumberland, B.C., on Vancouver Island near Nanaimo, B.C., was credited as the architect of Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Penrith Avenue at Third Street, CUMBERLAND, B.C., 1895; still standing in 2022. An illustrated perspective drawing, with elevation and description of the new church, of pure Gothic design, was published in The Weekly News (Union, B.C.), 8 Oct. 1895, 4, and in a historical article on the church in the Cumberland Islander, 29 July 1922, 3, descrip.

K. Sharp arrived in the town of Union in 1894 to work as an architect and builder, but no information has been found on his career after 1895. He may have served as a contractor on other buildings in the region after this date. A historical assessment of the church has recently been published in February 2022, and is available online (Heritage B.C. – Statement of Significance – Holy Trinity Anglican Church Cumberland B.C.)
