MacAuley, William Henry

MacAULEY, William Henry (1874-1953), a native of Edinburgh, Scotland who was born there on 31 December 1874. He was active in Kamloops, B.C. from 1912 to 1921, and worked under his own name or in partnership with John J. Parlett (see list of works under Parlett & MacAuley). He articled in the office of Latham & Bosworth, Architects from 1893 to 1897, then moved to Johannesburg, South Africa in 1897 and worked as assistant in the office of William H. Stucke, Architect, ARIBA until 1900. He served as a volunteer in the Boer War, and in 1902-04 he was employed as assistant with McIntosh & Moffat, Architects in Johannesburg. From 1904 to early 1908 he was a draftsman and designer in the Architectural Department of the federal South African Engineering Branch, also in Johannesburg. In September 1908 he emigrated to Canada and settled in Fort William, Ont. where he obtained a position as assistant to the City Architect & Parks Board, and in late 1911 he moved west to Kamloops, B.C. From January 1912 until late 1920 he was in partnership with J.J. Parlett, and later practised under his own name until after 1930. MacAuley died at Saanich, B.C. on 27 January 1953 (death notice Victoria Daily Times, 30 Jan. 1953, 16).
