Hubbell, Charles

HUBBELL, Charles (1867 – 1944) was active in Thamesville, Kent County in western Ontario and his name as “Architect” appears on the cornerstone for the Methodist Church, BOTANY, ONT. in 1903. Although the church was demolished in 1998, the carved cornerstone survives and has been incorporated into a commemorative stone cairn now located in Botany which celebrates the history of this church (inf. Ian Mason, Sarnia). Hubbell was born in Harwich, Ontario on 4 December 1867 and census records for Ontario in 1901 confirm that he was listed as a carpenter, and he may have prepared plans for buildings in Kent County from 1890 onward, and then offered his services as both carpenter and contractor. He later died in Thamesville on 9 November 1944.
