Huot, Joseph Edmond

HUOT, Joseph Edmond. (1869- c. 1944) was born at Sillery Cove, Que. on 26 March 1869 and served an apprenticeship with John W. Hopkins in Montreal. In 1895 he formed a partnership with P. Alfred Gamelin (see list of works under Gamelin & Huot) and continued to practise with him until late 1899 when their firm was dissolved (C.R., xi, 24 Jan. 1900, 3). In 1902 he formed another partnership with Ulric J. Asselin, but the relationship was shortlived and ended within the year. Huot then joined with Eugene Payette and formed a new partnership in early 1903 (C.A.B., xvi, Jan. 1903, xi). Much of their practice was devoted to residential works including many speculative developments for the Estate of Joseph Masson, and for the Weir family. They flourished until 1907 when Payette departed to work under his own name. Huot continued to work alone until after 1930 (biog. in The Gazette [Montreal], 5 June 1897, 15).
