Kay, John

KAY, John (1842-1921), born at Stranraer, Scotland on 15 April 1842 and was brought to Canada by his family in 1854. He was active in Brant County, Ontario where he was first recorded as a carpenter and builder, and later as an architect in Paris, Ont. after 1880. He was among the founding members of the Ontario Assoc. of Architects and he registered with the OAA on 30 August 1890. Kay practised as an architect from c. 1880 until after 1900, and later died in Paris on 23 April 1921 (obituary Brantford Expositor, 25 April 1921, 9; obit. Star-Transcript [Paris], 4 May 1921, 8).
