MacKay, John W.

MacKAY, John W. (1870-1924), architect of Pictou, Nova Scotia who was active in this region in the early 20th C. His obituary, published in 1924, states that “....numerous buildings throughout the eastern provinces stand as monuments to his skill as an architect” (Evening Mail [Halifax], 8 September 1924, 8). He specialized in the design of public institutions, but only two of these works have been identified at this point, and it is possible that new research will link him to other buildings in Nova Scotia erected after 1900. He died at Scotsburn, N.S. on 7 September 1924 (obituary Pictou Advocate, 8 Sept. 1924, 8; obit. C.R., xxxviii, 1 Oct. 1924, 991).
