Douglas, Chrystie Ludlow

DOUGLAS, Chrystie Ludlow (1900-1960) of Montreal, Que. was active there.at first under his own name from 1937, and later as a partner in the firm of Shorey, Ritchie & Douglas, Architects. Born in New York City on 6 April 1900, he was raised in Montreal where he attended Lower Canada College in 1907-1913, and Bishop's College School in Lennoxville in 1914-17. He served with the U.S. Navy after WWI in 1919, and later studied architecture at Columbia University where he graduated in 1925. He returned to Montreal in late 1925 and joined the successful Montreal firm of Barott & Blackader where he served as draughtsman from 1925 to 1929, and was then appointed as partner in January 1929 to May 1932 where he assisted with the design and drawings for the Aldred Building, and the Bell Telephone Co. headquarters building, both in Montreal. Douglas operated an office in Montreal under his own name from 1934 onward, and specialized in residential design. In 1946 he joined in a new partnership with Harold E. Shorey and Samuel D. Ritchie.
