Born in Montreal on 2 March 1913, he attended public and high schools there, and later moved to Boston, Mass. where he graduated from Massachusetts Inst. of Technology in 1936. He may have trained in the Montreal office of David J. Spence, and in 1938 he was invited by Spence to form a new partnership, with Thomas W. Burge.
