Horn, Edward C.

HORN, Edward C. (fl. 1905-35) of New York City was an expert in theatre design who was hired to plan the Canadian outlets of the Bennett Theatre chain for C.W. Bennett of London, Ont. He built vaudeville houses and movie houses in Ottawa, London, Montreal, Hamilton, Quebec City, Halifax, and Saint John, N.B. Ornate and richly decorated, the theatre interiors by Horn were invariably influenced by ancient Italian or Greek precedent and were considerably enhanced by elaborate wall murals executed by artists who collaborated with Horn in establishing a style for his theatres. No biographical information on Horn has been found (J. Ward, Architects in Practice in New York City 1900-40, 37)
