Horel, George Albert

HOREL, George Albert (1876-1929) was active in Vancouver during the period from 1910 to 1912. Born in Victoria, B.C. on 29 February 1876, he learned the building trades and was recorded as a carpenter in Vancouver in 1901 . By 1910 he began to style himself as an architect, and he completed several commissions for ecclesiastical and commercial buildings in the Vancouver area. In 1913 he was in partnership with Orlando D. Roberts (1888-1958). Horel left Vancouver in 1913 or 1914 and later appeared in Saskatoon, Sask. in 1921 where he was listed as an architect, but only a few references to his work there have been found. During the period from 1926 to 1929 he worked as an assistant to J. Melrose Morrison. Horel died in Saskatoon, Sask. on 12 July 1929, and was later buried at Woodlawn Cemetery in that city (obituary Saskatoon Star-Phoenix, 13 July 1929, 3; 19 July 1929, 6; inf. Donald Luxton, Vancouver).
