LARUE, Narcisse (1819-1882), an architect who began his career in Quebec City, P.Q. before 1841 but who later moved to Montreal, Que in 1862 and had a successful career designing a variety of residential and commercial buildings there until after 1875. He was born in Quebec in 1819 and likely obtained his education and training there, but no information on his activity has been found until 1849 when he began to style himself as an “architect”. He worked under his own name, and was briefly in partnership with Alfred Colborne in Montreal in 1863-64. Larue died in Montreal on 1 October 1882 (death notice Le Monde [Montreal], 2 Oct. 1882, 4; death notice Montreal Daily Star, 4 Oct. 1882, 3; biog. A.J.H. Richardson, Quebec City: Architects, Artisans & Builders, 1984, 341).
