Latourelle, Edmond

LATOURELLE, Edmond (1888-1971), active on Montreal, Que. for nearly thirty years. He was born there on 29 September 1888 and attended Mont St. Louis College in 1905-08. He then studied architecture at the Ecole Polytechnique from September 1908 to April 1913, but he appears to have been preparing plans for buildings in Outremont as early as 1911. While attending school, he trained in the office of J. Dalbe Viau in 1909-10, and in the office of Gauthier & Daoust in 1913-14. Latourelle commenced practise under his own name in 1914 and designed several separate school buildings for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Montreal, and gained an expertise in this type of building.

He appears to have ended his private architectural practise after 1934. In 1938, he was appointed Construction Inspector for the Quebec Province Dept. of Education in Quebec City, and was responsible for the inspection of all schools, hospitals and other institutions under supervision of the department (Gazette [Montreal], 26 April 1938, 2). He later died in Montreal on 13 October 1971 (inf. from the P.Q.A.A., Montreal).
